Dear Ocean Science Section members,
I am writing to you with a heavy heart. Taiwan’s newest research vessel, the OR5, sank on Friday, 10 October. It was a real tragedy. Out of the 45 on board, 2 died, 43 were rescued alive, quite a few with injuries. The OR5 is a 2,700 ton boat. It is only 2 years old and it has all the most modern nautical equipment. The circumstances under which OR5 sank are still unclear. We should learn more as time moves on. Read more from the Taipei Times.
Our thoughts are with our fellow researchers and members of the Ocean Sciences community.
